WATERLOO–The RedTail Esports team at Hawkeye Community College capped off an undefeated season by claiming the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) title in Rainbow Six Siege, defeating Gogebic Community College 3-0 in the championship series on December 14, 2020.
“This has been such a resilient group, battling against the odds of COVID-19, facing new struggles week in and week out, and for them to come in and put all of that to the side and focus on the game really shows the dedication and grit of this team,” said head coach Billy Howard. “I’m incredibly proud of every single member on the roster, and I’m confident we can run it back in the spring and defend our title.”
RedTail freshman Nick Beier was named MVP for his performance.
“After what can only be described as a dominating performance, there could only be one MVP,” the NJCCA said in its announcement. “[A] freshman standout, Nick Beier was deserving of the recognition after a flawless series.”

- Nick Beier, Waterloo, IA
- Trey Berger, Waterloo, IA
